Announcement

Dear parents,
Please note that there will not be any blog updates over the weekend, as we are not in school. Will try to resume updates on Monday, 16 March. I have taken many photographs and have also video-recorded some interesting segments. More details about the ordering of the commemorative CD will be made known to you when we return.

  1. Dear Eliasians,

I have been reading all your blog posts with great interest last night and tonight. I get glimpses of your exciting experiences and your feelings/thoughts about them. I am very proud of all of you as I could discern ELIAS values in action through your short but well thought out communications with your parents/friends. You are indeed worthy ambassadors of Elias Park Primary School and Singapore! Please keep up your excellent work and positive attitude towards new learning experiences.

In the next two days, you will get to visit a few of the interesting tourist spots in Xi'an. Remember that the objectives of your Xi'an trip is for you to gain greater international awareness, to learn more about Xi'an and China (its past and present) and the world beyond Singapore. In your interactions with your Xi'an friends, you can learn more about their values and beliefs towards education and life in general. Have you noticed that your Xi'an counterparts are highly attentive and fully engaged during lessons? They take personal responsibility in learning by asking questions to clarify doubts. They not only study hard but out of their classrooms they also play hard. Healthy and active lifestyle is inculcated from young. You must have participated in their daily morning workouts, PE lessons, Active Recess (yes, they too have Active Recess like in EPPS). That is a point that you might want to reflect on. What drives them to demonstrate such a positive attitude towards learning? Can Eliasians emulate them?

You will also get to visit the homes of your Xi'an friends for dinner one evening. A lot of logistic would have gone into the organisation of the home visits with the objective of providing you with an opportunity to experience the way of life of your Xi'an friends. Go on the home visits with an open mind, unwrap the experience like a gift. How much you would get out of the visit really depends on your frame of mind. I wish you an exciting time of relationship building with your Xi'an friends. Remember to be on your best behaviour as you are ambassadors of EPPS and Singapore! I am confident you will pass with flying colours=)

By the time you read this blog post, it would already be Monday, 16.3.2009, the 6th day of your Xi'an trip. Time really flies, and before you know it, you'll be flying home to Singapore. You will remember your experiences and learning points long after the trip. Continue to reflect on your experiences, for reflection is the most powerful strategy in learning!

  3. Hi Eliasians

I am heartened to see everyone looking so healthy and cheerful in the photos taken on Saturday and Sunday. It indicates to me that you have heeded your teachers' advice to rest well, eat healthily, drink abundantly and keep yourselves warmly clad. If you continue keeping the above in mind over the next few days , I am sure you will be in top form when your parents fetch you from Changi Airport Terminal 3, in the wee hours of Friday, 20.3.2009.

You have visited many Xi'an attractions of historical and cultural interest last Saturday and Sunday, with a few more interesting visits in the next 3 days. These Learning Journeys are aimed at fostering and raising your interest in Chinese culture. Your immersion in the Chinese-speaking environment, is also aimed at improving your proficiency in the use of the Chinese Language. One of the observable outcomes is that I noticed more blog postings in Chinese than when you first reached Xi'an. I challenge everyone to post at least one blog post in Chinese by Wed, 18.3.2009. If your parents can't read Chinese like me, you may address your blog post to your CL classmates. I am sure they will be thrilled to read your message in Chinese!
